“It is clear that the Premier has lost the majority of our Caucus. As such, I have since visited the Premier to inform her that I will be nominating for the leadership of the Labor Party,” the statement read.
“This decision is not easy, but the stakes at the upcoming election are simply too high.”
The caucus meeting will happen on Tuesday morning, when MPs return to state parliament.
Allan is expected to give a press conference on Monday afternoon and has indicated she will not back down in the leadership fight.
MPs have reportedly been counting their supporters within Labor to determine whether there was enough support for a leadership spill.

That pressure was compounded after recent polling suggested Labor is on track for a heavy defeat at an upcoming state election on November 28.
The latest Herald Sun poll has the Coalition leading Labor 56-44 on a two-party preferred basis.
On primary votes, the Coalition is on 29 per cent, while Labor has fallen behind One Nation, which is polling 24 per cent.
One union boss has warned of an “orange wave”, saying One Nation could win as many as 34 seats if the polling is replicated at the election.
