Pop star Katy Perry has hit back at US President Donald Trump for using one of her hit songs in a video showing footage of military strikes.

On Friday, the Trump administration posted a clip on the White House’s official TikTok account that featured missiles exploding.

The post described as a “disgrace” was set to Perry’s 2010 hit song Firework and used her infamous lyrics “boom, boom, boom”.

“Iran has been warned,” the video’s caption read.

“I am deeply appalled and angry to see ‘Firework’ used on the @WhiteHouse TikTok account as a backing track for video footage of military strikes,” Perry posted on X.

“I did not approve this, I was not asked and I absolutely do not condone it.”

Perry said she wrote the song to give people “hope, healing and inner strength” during their darkest days.

“To see a message of self-worth and upliftment weaponised to soundtrack destruction and violence is a complete violation of everything my song stands for,” Perry continued.

“My music is for bringing people together, not celebrating warfare.”

Perry joins many other musicians — including Céline Dion, Olivia Rodrigo, Sabrina Carpenter and Radiohead — who have told the Trump administration to stop using their music on social media since the beginning of the president’s second term.

Singer Sabrina Carpenter slammed Trump in December last year for using her song in what she called an “evil and disgusting” video.

The Trump administration posted a TikTok showing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers detaining people during raids across America.

But the footage was set to Carpenter’s 2024 hit song Juno, prompting the pop star to fire back and condemn the use of her music in the clip.

“This video is evil and disgusting,” Carpenter wrote on X at the time.

“Do not ever involve me or my music to benefit your inhumane agenda.”
