Doctors tracking this year’s winter lurgies predict the flu season will peak in early August.
NSW Health says cases have ticking up since cold weather arrived in mid-May, with more than 1500 people now being diagnosed with influenza each week.

The state’s hospitals have moved into “surge mode” to accommodate extra demand, with further capacity to be triggered in coming weeks if forecasts prove correct.
“It looks like we might see a peak in early August, but this may be delayed because during school holidays we see less activity, less mingling,” NSW Chief Health Officer Kerry Chant said.
“Please get vaccinated ahead of the peak transmission. It’s important that it does take a little while for your immunity to kick in.”
The number of people getting RSV is also rising, however COVID-19 cases so far remain low.
