“I received a call from an elderly lady who’d been given quite a fright by a large red-bellied black snake inside her home,” Chris Williams at Sydney Snake Catchers told 7NEWS.com.au.

“The snake moved into the bathroom, where she quickly closed the door and sealed the gap underneath, so we were confident it was contained.”

Williams said when he entered the bathroom, he searched under towels and through “the usual bathroom clutter” but could not find the snake.

“We worked through all the obvious hiding spots,” he said.

“In the end, the snake turned up in the very last place we expected — tucked away in an elevated drawer, well off the ground.”

The snake had found its way up and into the drawer, curling up with the toiletries out of view.

“I was genuinely surprised and the homeowner was understandably relieved,” Chris said.

“We catch hundreds of red-bellied black snakes each season but this one certainly stands out as one of the more memorable jobs.”

Red-bellied black snakes are venomous, however, their bites are not considered to be fatal to adults, and they pose much more of a risk to pets and small children.
