A driver has handed himself into police after allegedly running over a pedestrian on Friday.

Emergency services were called to Phillip Pde in Deception Bay in Brisbane’s north about 7.20pm on Friday after a black Nissan Navara reportedly struck a pedestrian between Bundaberg St and Nambour Ct.

Police also allege the driver — the sole occupant of the ute — fled the scene before later presenting to a police station.

The pedestrian, a 21‑year‑old Newport woman, was rushed to the Royal Brisbane Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

A 49‑year‑old Clontarf man has since been charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle and driving under the influence.

He is due to face Redcliffe Magistrates Court on February 3.

Detectives from the Forensic Crash Unit are now appealing for witnesses, particularly anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage from the area.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police.
